April 15th - I went swimming again holding my head up high although my shoulders were killing me. I warmed up with 4 x 25's, ouch! Swimming is tough! I don't know how those triathletes do it; swimming lap after lap with 15 second rest in between. Maybe, one day I too will have super lungs.
April 17th - Today was the ladies anniversary ride - 45 miles around S. Mtn. We were also going to take pictures today at 6am. Wow, what an early start. I arrived around 0540. I was soo sleepy. The day started off with beautiful pictures and great conversation with women who are quickly becoming my best friends and training buddies. I was concerned as I had not been on my bike for two and a half weeks. However, the wind blowing in my hair and the familiar sun kissing my rosy cheeks was unforgettable. I had missed it so much more than I had anticipated. The first 24 miles I was surprised as I was keeping a 18-20 mph pace, which is unheard of for me. Especially with my asthma - I was in heaven. Until I heard this unfamilliar crash and very familiar voice scream. My whole body froze for a minute. Then, I went into auto pilot. The next thing I knew I was dialing 911, expressing my concern for a dear friends well being. Explaining that she may have a dislocated shoulder. We were in an ambulance and off to the hospital. She currently has a broken collar bone, but is on the mend. My heart aches for her as this was an accident caused by yet another driver which ran another cyclist off the road due to not being able to share the road. :( Needless to say, no further training on Saturday or Sunday.
April 19th - I think I was still exhausted and missed swimming. However, I did make it to pilates which kicked my butt. Wow, do I need to work on my core. It has gotten pretty soft over the last few months.
April 20th - I did swim this morning and was frustrated. I was working on slow exhales and quick inhales. Easy for the coach to instruct as he is not the one in the water! We worked on me getting my hip out of the way when my arms come down to complete my stroke. I just figured I had big hips. When I worked on this drill it messed my whole swim technique. I need to really work on this drill!! I also ran 3.5 miles in the evening. It was a very slow 3.5 miles, but I did it and I was pretty proud of myself! I think I may actually be a tri girl someday. I am also making some lifelong friends in the process! My life is changing everyday...
